I find taking photos just of the art itself to be a little boring. I had never been, and was really taken with the fact that it’s all stained glass (and tells a story, reading from left to right, bottom to top in each pane of the stained glass). We shot three online classes (including “A Week in Paris with Jay Maisel” plus my on-location class on shooting travel photography, and a class on Lightroom/Photoshop for Travel Photography). Royce Bair's Night-Lit Landscapes
3 May 2012 | 6:00 amThere are no AC plugs near Delicate Arch in Grand County, Utah, where Royce Bair made this night landscape shot. So all of his flashes needed to be battery-powered to illuminate the 20-meter tall formation. Two of his light sources were Norman 400B's, weighing in at 6 lbs and from which he needed a total of 48 pops to make the image. But his Big Gun required only two pops to balance with the Normans. That 110,000 lumen light source weighed about a pound, all-in. And it ran off of a 9-volt battery. Read more » -

(Those classes are working their way through the editing system as we speak.) I’ve shown this on the blog before, a modern dancer, painted with tempura paint, and perched in a bird’s nest of tulle. It was lit with just one TTL flash, camera right, just out of frame. 16 May 2012 | 8:18 amI’ve heard a lot of talk about what happens to presets that were created in Lightroom 3 (or LR2) and now used in Lightroom 4. I know a lot of people have presets that they absolutely loved in Lightroom 3 and they simply don’t seem to look the same in Lightroom 4. That’s because of the differences in sliders in the Basic panel. Sliders that were in Lightroom 3 simply don’t exist in Lightroom 4. Kodak operated a nuclear reactor in Rochester basement
15 May 2012 | 8:15 amThe Rochester Democrat and Chronicle recently revealed that, in the years from 1974 to 2006, Kodak operated a small nuclear reactor in a basement of one of the buildings in Kodak Park, the company's industrial campus in Rochester, New York. The device, about the size of a refrigerator, contained 3.5 pounds of enriched uranium and was used to do research on neutron imaging. -

New Marshall 5.6″ monitor

The form factor is perfect for an on board monitor, but it includes a lot of the features that before now were typically only found on larger monitors. My First D800 Photo Shoot
13 May 2012 | 9:03 pmThis past Saturday I gathered up some lenses, my new Nikon D800, and my youngest son and headed out to Manassas Municpal airport to see some cool aircraft and watch a little aerobatics. This was my first real photo shoot with the D800 and I had a real blast putting it through its paces. The weather was fantastic so I can’t tell you about the ISO performance of the camera (I shot between ISO 100 and 200 all day). For lenses, I took my Sigma 24-70 f/2.8, a Nikon 70-300 f/3.5-5.6, and my 50mm f/1.4. I could have used a little more reach than my 300mm provided but I wanted to keep things… -

You first must separate your registrations by groups of published and unpublished photos. You then must separate the registrations of your published images by calendar year published.
