• Skier survives 17 hours under avalanche in Switzerland

  A twenty-one-year-old skier was found alive after being buried underneath an avalanche for seventeen hours in the Swiss Alps. The lucky lad was pulled from the snow with only mild hypothermia and no major injuries. The man was skiing off piste near Evolène in the Swiss Valais when he was buried by the slide. His parents reported him missing and a search operation commenced. They soon found evidence of an avalanche measuring fifty by 150 meters.   Snowocalypse 2010 continues pounding away at the east coast, but for those of us not buried up to our belly buttons in a winter wonderland, it can be hard to imagine the magnitude of the snowfall. Luckily, a YouTube-r in Washington D.C. armed with a Nikon D200 snapped a shot every five minutes on February 5 and 6 to create a really cool time lapse video that can put anyone in awe of the tag team of weather evil doers, Mother Nature and Jack Frost.
